This Five Tony Award winning show, including Best Musical and Best Score, was conceived by Yeston with Fellini’s permission to adapt his masterpiece film, “8 1/2” to the musical stage. The story follows Guido Contini, renowned Italian film director, as he suffers a mid-life crisis at the worst possible time – in the middle of his life. Haunted between his profound relationships with three women (his wife, his mistress, and an actress essential to his creativity) and taunted by images and memories from his past, bereft of an idea for a new film after suffering three flops, Guido watches the boundaries between his inner life and reality begin to blur.

Though on the verge of forty, he is still emotionally a child of nine – who must grow up if he is to have a chance at recapturing his creative powers, his career, and his wife. Exploring and revealing the thoughts and emotions of the twenty four extraordinary women who populate the stage as a singing orchestra, the show equally becomes an essay on their gifts, power, wisdom, patience, and inspiration.
Having won in addition Seven Drama Desk Awards, NINE has played over the years in the UK, Australia, and in French, Italian, Greek, Swedish, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish, Hungarian, Portuguese, Dutch, Czech, German, Finnish, and Polish language productions.
