One of the four great Haiku masters, Kobayashi Issa wrote over 22,000 Haikus during his lifetime, yet no one has ever solved the mystery of the Ten-Year Gap in his biography. From 1777 to 1787 (from ages 14 to 24) he utterly disappeared. Nothing is known of him or his whereabouts during that time! This musical suggests a solution to where he had been during the mysterious decade. The answer? – in PARIS! The show takes place in two time periods: 1) Japan in the 1770's and 1780's when the the Haiku master is reputed to have gone to Paris, and 2) in the Present, when a bright grad student named Kaito Nakamura, studying at Keio University in Tokyo (the “Yale” of Japan) is writing a dissertation suggesting his theory that the place to which Issa had disappeared for 10 years was indeed Paris!
Kaito goes to Paris to find evidence that he's right. And he does find it! Both men find love while in the romantic City of Light, each with a fabulous girl! Opened in Tokyo January 2026, and then going on World Tour. Produced by Takarazuka Revue Company.
